How to choose a phone under KSh 20,000
What actually matters when your budget is tight
Start with the battery
A 5,000 mAh battery is the minimum for most people. Anything smaller means charging before dinner.
- Look for 5,000 mAh or more
- Fast charging is a bonus, not a must
- Replaceable batteries are rare now
RAM and storage
4 GB RAM is usable. 6 GB is comfortable. 64 GB storage fills fast; 128 GB is safer if you take photos and videos.
- 4 GB RAM minimum
- 128 GB storage preferred
- Check if the phone has a memory card slot
Camera expectations
Budget phones advertise big megapixel numbers. In real life, daylight photos matter more than night shots.
- Daylight photos are usually fine
- Night mode is often soft
- Video quality matters for WhatsApp status
